About
Us
Founded
in 2004, the Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty
Center fulfills a need for advanced veterinary care
in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Prior
to our arrival in the Rogue Valley, 24-hour emergency
care for clients was not available and pet owners
had to travel up to three hours to find veterinary
specialists. Knowing that pet owners needed a better
alternative for emergency, critical care and specialty
services, the primary care veterinarians in nearby
communities welcomed our arrival and have remained
an integral part of the services we provide.
What is a Board Certified Specialist?
Simply
put, the term "Diplomate" refers to a veterinarian
who has been board certified (received a diploma)
in a particular veterinary specialty. Only veterinarians
who have successfully completed post-graduate certification
requirements of a particular specialty college are
considered Diplomates and have earned the right to
be called veterinary specialists.
Veterinarians
wishing to become board certified must complete a
three-year residency program, meet specific training
and caseload requirements, and perform research and
have their research published. This process is supervised
by current Diplomates, ensuring consistency in training
and adherence to high standards. Once the residency
has been completed, the resident must sit for and
pass a rigorous examination. Only then does the veterinarian
earn the title of Diplomate.
